Introduction to Photography – DSLR Edition
This course covers the basics of photography and teaches how to apply them using a Digital SLR. It describes how subject, camera and photographer come together to produce rewarding images. The material is aimed at anyone new to the art of photography, whether a complete novice or an avid snapshooter. Most of the course applies to photography in general but practical sessions are intended for DSLR cameras.
The entire photographic process is explained, from subject to photographer, with equipment in between, but at the photographer's control. The core of this class focuses on how a DSLR captures images and how to control various aspects of the camera and lens to produce desired results. Topics covered include exposure, shutter-speed, aperture, ISO, focal-length, focus, metering, white-balance, image-parameters, file-formats, framing, quality of light and subject-matter.
Practical sessions teach how to control exposure-parameters, such as shutter-speed and aperture, as well as the how to control the camera lens. Studio exercises ensure everyone understands the basics before going outdoors to apply the lessons learned in a realistic environment.
